Inspiring Quote #6 – “Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.”

Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.

Alfred (Batman Begins)

Your first design concept will probably fail. This may be a surprise for you, but this is a good thing.  The validation of the ideas and learning from mistakes is a natural part of the Design Thinking process. Thanks to this you will have a chance to improve it or start again, until your concept will solve user needs in a right way.

Quote from the Batman Begins movie in just a few words explains a secret of successful people. It is a rare situation when the first attempt to do something is the successful one. It always take time. Famous inventors also need lots of hours of experiments. The experiments on ideas that will fail. For example: Wright brothers built series of prototypes before their plane started to work. If you would like to join to this pantheon of successful creative misfits, you have to practice, make something and fall few times. This experience will give you the advantage that will make your skill set stronger.

Perfection may be achieved only after multiple iterations of improvements. Even the simplest definition of the Design I heard is following:

“Design is an iterative process of solving people’s needs.”

The iteration means improvements. The improvements means you are doing something again. Finally, doing something again, means that you failed the first time with building not enough good products.
